Anna Emília de Abreu Castilho was an enterprising woman in the mid 19th century. Widow, took control of the family’s farms. She took the collapse of coffee as an opportunity to change her professional area. She went from a farmer to a real estate agent, buying and selling properties in Taubaté and São Paulo. She used to lend money with interest to the needy. She was one of the most powerful people in the city at the time, and she owned the most beautiful houses in Taubaté and Tremembé. She married Councilor Antônio José Moreira Castilho, and they had six children.
